Keep Out Shade And Load Shift With A Headache Rack
By Logan Taft
The truck is one of the toughest vehicles on the road today. Also called by the name lorry, trucks have been in use since 1895, wherein trucks developed by Karl Benz were used as buses. And after more than a century, the word truck has become synonymous with a tough-as-nails vehicle that can bear and transport large and heavy cargo over long distances and prolonged periods of time. And what makes the truck such a hardy transport vehicle is because of its rugged and reliable parts and accessories. All trucks share are lot of similarities when it comes to its components. The engines found on trucks, for example, are often of the four stroke or two stroke turbo intercooler diesel type, while smaller trucks, such as sport utility vehicles or pickup trucks, usually have gasoline engines. Also, smaller trucks have drivetrains which a manual or automatic transmission with synchronizers, while large trucks usually have manual transmissions without synchronizers, as it has a lighter weight compared to synchronized transmission. Trucks also share similar constructions in parts such as the chassis, axles, wheels, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems, with each part contributing to the ability of the truck to carry heavy loads.

However, the truck can also be outfitted with additional parts and accessories that can enhance its load carrying capabilities. And one such add-on to the truck is the Truck Rack. The rack is a special rack that protects the rear window of the truck from the dangers of shifting cargo. This is especially important in pickup trucks, or when the cargo that is irregular in shape or is remarkably heavy. There are many types of the rack available today. One of the common racks is Sunshade Rack. Usually made from bright-dipped heavy duty anodized aluminum, this type of rack has angled louvers that block out harsh sunlight and ultraviolet rays. Louvered aluminum racks also serve the same purpose as sunshade racks except that they are composed of a lightweight extruded aluminum frame and are usually painted black. Also, some louvered aluminum racks are finished with a clear

coat that enhances the resistance of the rack against scratches. Round tube racks, on the other hand, are made of rugged, 16 gauge steel tubing and are coated in either duplex nickel chrome plating with stainless steel louvers, or black powder coat with black louvers. Round tube racks also have a split top louver that houses the cab mounted brake light, and can be bolted on the top of the bed rail. Other racks also include the contactor rack, which has a heavy frame and goalpost-type vertical uprights for carrying long cargo such as ladders and pipes, and steel mesh rack, which has uses steel mesh on a heavy duty frame to protect the rear window from shifting loads.

Although most of the headache racks available on the market today are coated with a special finish, they can still be prone to scratches and corrosion. Damaged and corroded racks can cause more harm than good on the truck, and must be replaced immediately.
