With Headaches, What You Don’t Know Does Hurt You By Phyllis Grannis There is something really freeing about being in control. Not the "dig in your heels, holding on for dear life" kind of control, but the feelings of confidence that your own efforts can make something happen.
If you have chronic headaches there is an aspect of your how your body responds to your daily life that is out of control.
How Do You Know If You are Out of Control?
• Your entire life seems to be all about your headaches • The uncertainty of having a interferes with plans • Family and friends feel annoyed at your problems • You feel like a victim to your ongoing chronic headaches • You know stress is contributing to your headaches • You rely on medication for your relief • Medication just isn’t working any more • You have tried everything and you still have headaches
Have you ever wondered about the commercials you see on TV? Major drug companies are spending millions to convince you their medicine is the answer to your problems. It seems that there is a solution just around the corner. They even use movie stars or physicians who attest to that fact.
There is not a lot of support to help you take charge of your relief. Unfortunately, the point of view that you can't deal with what ails you is everywhere. Just take a look some night at the tone of commercials on prime time TV. They would suggest that all you need is a pill.
Can't sleep? Take a pill Indigestion? Take a pill Can't eat dairy products? Take a pill Headache? Take a pill Arthritis pain? Take a pill Depressed? Take a pill Shy? Take a pill
Then you begin to wonder why your headaches continue when there are all these medications available. If you are someone who has unsuccessfully tried many medications and still have headaches you may have tried other alternative methods. Maybe you have gone to a health practitioner and tried massage, chiropractic adjustments or acupuncture. These modalities may have even helped for a while. But, what they all have in common is that something or someone is doing something to you.
What if those new drugs don’t work or stop working? Or, what if you learn you could have the dreaded defective gene? Or, you are on vacation in Italy and your massage therapist is in Idaho? Even if these strategies for headaches help, the real problem is that someone else is in charge of your relief!
Now, I am not suggesting that we should never take anything for pain. But if you chronically can't sleep, or everything you eat gives you indigestion, or you have headaches
all the time...SOMETHING MIGHT BE CAUSING IT THAT MEDICATIONS DO NOT ADDRESS AND YOU CAN CHANGE.
Doctors know that stress and lifestyle issues are a major contributor to headaches. But they do not have the time or the training to guide you through a program that will remove those physical triggers to you chronic headaches. So, they resort to what their training has taught them, prescribe medication. But relaxation, resolving the affects of chronic stress and a coach that can guide you through the process of achieving natural relief is possible
It doesn't take much imagination to see that taking control of your chronic headaches can apply to other areas of your life that seem out of your control.
There are challenges to take charge of your relief
• YOU have to do something in your own behalf • YOU have to take on learning a new skill • YOU have to make changes in you lifestyle
But once you learn to do these things, the knowledge belongs to you and it is available anytime day or night no matter where you are.
