Serious Flu Symptoms – When to Call Your Doctor

The flu virus will typically last for about five to seven days in a typical situation. The fatigue from the flu can last a few days longer though. While there are some common symptoms, including body aches, congestion, fever and dehydration, there are some serious flu symptoms which you would need to consider. In these cases you will need to talk with a flu doctor for assistance.

You should talk with a flu doctor in the event that the person who has the flu is one who has an especially high risk of the flu. Infants, the elderly and those with chronic health concerns like bronchitis and HIV are all people who are at high risks of the flu. People who are at a higher risk for the flu will be ones whose immune systems have been significantly weakened. This means that the viral infection is going to be harder to follow. In the event that any of the flu symptoms are found in a person who is at a higher risk it is best to contact a flu doctor for assistance immediately.

A bacterial infection is one of the most serious things to watch for with the flu. When mucus is coming out of the nose then that means that there is a bacterial infection that goes with the flu. The mucus is generally clear in terms of its color. If there are ever any changes in the color of the mucus then that means that there is a more serious infection. The amount of mucus will increase in the lungs as a result of the flu because the flu will directly target the lungs in some cases. As a result there will be an increased amount of coughing. If the mucus changes color then it is best to contact a flu doctor for assistance immediately.

If you vomit even a slight amount when you have the flu then this means that you may have the bacterial infection in your digestive system. This is another of the more serious symptoms to be aware of.

If it becomes difficult for you to stand on your own as a result of the flu then you will need to contact your doctor. This is a sign that you are not going to be able to fight off the flu as well as you normally would be able to. A loss of the ability to hold your liquids is another of the more serious flu symptoms to watch for as well. It helps to be able to get the appropriate hydration as a result so that you will be able to recover at an easier rate. However, if this does not work as well as it should be you should contact your doctor.

Remember to speak with your flu doctor if you even have any of these serious flu symptoms. There are all sorts of dangerous concerns involving the flu. In some cases an infection can be dangerous, but there are some methods to use to tell if you have an infection. It is important to watch for these symptoms so that you can recover from the flu.
