Hardwood Flooring - The Benefits Of Utilising Wooden Flooring
When interior designers assess a new project, their thinking is in the order of:
i) Floors
ii) Walls
iii) Ceilings.
The logic of this is simple: the floor is the first thing that strikes the eye when a person enters a room. The rest of the room is built around this initial impression, and as we all know, first impressions count. What you have on the floor constructs the room from the bottom up; get this bit wrong, and the rest will not fall easily into place.
A hard wearing, timeless solution can be found by using solid hardwood flooring. Wood creates an immediate ambience that sets the tone for the rest of the room. One of the strengths of wood is in its adaptability; it is equally suited to a classic styling as it is to a contemporary look, or a funky, kitsch retro feel. With its simplicity and clean lines, you immediately open up your room into a space that allows you to stamp your personality onto it. Modern wood is now available in a variety of styles, such as Ash, Cherry, Walnut and Real Oak, so it really is down to you to set the tone for maximum impact.
There have been great advancements in the technology used to produce wood flooring, making them easier to fit, maintain and giving them increased durability. Hardwood floors are laid on a dry, flat, solid subfloor, where they are fitted on as a ‘floating floor’. This subfloor can be a base of concrete, slate, wood, plastic, linoleum or cork. For added sound and damp insulation, material is placed

between the real hardwood floor and the subfloor – this helps prevent the ‘herd of elephants’ effect that used to be the curse of early wood products.
Our floors are thankfully easy to maintain if simple procedures are followed. These include: attaching felt pads to the end of furniture legs, only using a damp (not wet) mop when cleaning the floor, removing stains while they are still fresh, and drying off any spilt liquid immediately. In the rare instance of more severe damage to the floor’s surface occurring, wax made for varnished solid hardwood floors can be applied.
Installing wood will give an immediate effect upon the ambience of your home, opening up rooms, creating space and enabling your reality to match your vision. Of course, fashions change, but the beauty of solid wooden is that its durability allows for this, and its timeless qualities move with the vagaries of fashion. Its easy maintenance and exceptional quality will ensure that you create a long term environment that moves with the times.
