How to Budget for your Wedding

Even before you commence with your actual wedding preparations, the first thing you need to get in order is your wedding budget. It is highly unlikely that all couples-to-be already have huge fortunes to spend on their weddings. However, whether you are among the fortunate few or not, wedding budgeting still remains an essential part of any wedding preparation. After all you do need to know exactly how much you can afford and also what your funds are being spent on. It is equally important that you stick to your budget once you have made it.

You certainly do not need to spend on your funds on a lavish wedding. Your wedding can still be as beautiful and memorable even if you control the amount you spend on it. Here are a few helpful hints to help you create a budget for your wedding and factor in lots of ways to cut costs.

Having a weekday wedding is one of the ways in which you can save a lot. Since a majority of weddings are held over weekends, wedding suppliers and wedding venue hosts tend to charge a premium at these times. On weekdays, from Monday to Thursday, when they are less busy, they would welcome the chance to make some extra money and do charge less. Hosting your wedding during the wedding off-season months of September through to March is another way of getting better deals on venues and other wedding essentials.

A major chunk of your wedding budget will go towards the reception. Limiting the number of guests is one of the ways of bringing down the reception cost. Don't give in to the temptation of inviting all and sundry to your wedding reception. Just restrict yourself to inviting only close friends and family who who'd like to spend the special day with.

By choosing a buffet meal over a more formal sit-down meal you can cut down on catering expenses too. Buffet meals cost less while at the same time allowing your guests to choose what they want to eat at your wedding.

If you have a really limited budget to spend on your wedding reception, you could choose to host a barbeque party or a garden reception. Home garden weddings offer you an innovative way to create a successful but limited wedding budget. Get hold of the reputed cooks within the family and entrust the cooking and catering fully to them.

Other miscellaneous stuff that needs to be considered in your wedding budget include the wedding dress, make-up and hair-do, favors, stationery and flower arrangements. As far as possible, rope in family and friends to help you out in these areas. Talented relatives and friends can be given the task of making centerpieces, flower decors and souvenirs.

A photographer is another major wedding expense that can be cut down by asking a photographer friend to shoot all your wedding photos. A word of caution though- this might be one area worth splurging on. In years to come, your wedding photographs will be the only souvenir you'll have of your momentous day.
