Principles Of Basketball Shooting

Dropping the basketball inside the hoop accurately with every shot aimed towards the basket is the goal of every player. Despite knowing this, few achieve it consistently. There is always room for improvement. With regular practice and discipline, shooting a basketball can be perfected.

As a basketball player, it is up to you to be your own critic of your shooting ability while at the same time guarding your moves. Can you execute them accurately? Do you fail more than succeed? Only you can be the judge. While there are basics and techniques that are very important, you have to judge whether you are constantly improving your success rate in basketball shooting.

Let's take a look at some of the principles of basketball shooting.

Mental Principles of Shooting The Mental Principle is vital to handle the pressures of competitive court play. Handling such pressures and being effective is the key to success. Some factors affecting the mind during play are given below.

Confidence: Confidence and courage will be the key. If you have a high level of self-confidence in your ability to shoot accurately, you can do it. On the other hand, if you suffer from lack of self-confidence, the whole game could be jeopardized.

Concentration: Being focused during attempts at shooting is vital for every player. It takes constant practice and you can stay focused despite a lot of distraction around you. To reach this level of concentration, it is necessary for you to learn how to relax even when being directly attacked by an opponent.

Physical Principles of Shooting

The Physical Principle: It is not enough that you are mentally strong. The state of your physical condition also matters.

Some other important aspects are given below.

Establish the target: This means staying focused on your target despite the din of the roaring crowd and the constantly shifting status on the court. Your eyes have to be on the ball and the player holding it all the time, while in play.

Body balance: Staying relaxed and controlling the efforts of your muscles and keeping the ball under control, is body balance.

Force generation: Basketball is a highly physical game. Using the entire body, shoulders, back, legs, arms and other muscles in a coordinated and effective way is force generation.

Basketball shooting is a vital element of the game that will decide how your team performs and whether you win or lose the game.

As you can see, there are many factors that come into play that can have an affect on how well you shoot during any given game. It is important that you have practiced your shots and that you are in top physical condition. Equally important is your mental state during the game, you should be focused and self confident you will make the shots.
