Differences Between Utility and Sport ATVs

Utility and sport ATVs are the two most common types of ATVs. They both look different in terms of appearance but there are other differences between these two other than that. These types of ATVs have other considerations involving not only their speed and handling abilities but also how they perform in off-road situations.

The ability to go around off-road areas is important. A utility ATV is a better option to use for this form of driving. A utility vehicle can move around tough surfaces easier than a sport one can. Also, a utility vehicle can move around thanks to the greater low end torque used in the off-road driving situations for an ATV. Also, utility ATVs have locking differentials that help them to get out of tight areas like deep mud holes. That's because the differential will be used to get all wheels to have torque moved to places where wheels are not slipping or when wheels are not turning at the same speeds.

Utility ATVs have independent suspension on all of their wheels. This allows for the vehicle to be able to stay in contact with the group more often. In fact, the suspension can become soft to help absorb the shocks from driving around off-road surfaces.

Performance on road conditions are essential to some drivers. In this case a sport ATV will be the better option to use. Sport ATVs can help to get drivers to great speeds and to get through corners with ease. A sport vehicle will be made for quick acceleration and fast speeds. The gearing used is tough for getting through corners, and the suspension can handle these corners too. The tension of the suspension can be adjusted on a sport ATV as well, but if the suspension is too soft the performance will not be as good. Also, since it is light in weight a sport ATV can easily get airborne on jumps and can be landed properly with ease.

The uses for these types of ATVs can be varied. Utility vehicles can be for work purposes and sport ones for fun. Some utilities are becoming sportier and better for casual driving as well. In fact, the 2006 Yamaha 450 Wolverine is one that combines both of these types of ATVs. It is light in weight and has four-wheel drive with plenty of low end power.

Overall, it is best to see what the differences in utility and sport ATVs are. Utility ATVs are better for tough surfaces and for handling hard areas. Sport ATVs are for casual driving and for quick turns and accelerations. Some ATVs even combine the two. By knowing about these two types of ATVs a better decision can be made about what ATV should be used.
